Hairdressers are hoping to bring a smile to the faces of poorly children this Christmas.

Zoe Gaitley and her team at Hair N Beauty in Castleford have launched an appeal to collect gifts and toys for young people who will be spending the festive season in Pinderfields Hospital.

And with the help of kind-hearted suppliers, clients and members of the community, they have already gathered dozens of presents.

Mrs Gaitley said: “My mum was in Pinderfields Hospital for quite a while and I just felt that I would like to give something back to them.

“I thought it would be a nice idea coming up to Christmas to give some gifts for children in hospital.

“The response has been brilliant.

“People have been coming in with their gifts, some have donated money for us to buy presents and some businesses like Sainsbury’s on Smawthorne Lane, have also donated items.”

The salon will be collecting for another three days before staff head over to the hospital, dressed as elves, with their special delivery.

Staff hope the gifts will bring festive cheer to children who are facing a Christmas in hospital.

Miss Gaitley said: “It’s a nice idea in that sense.

“But also parents who have children in hospital may not have much time, or in some cases money, to buy presents.

“It’s great to be able to give them a helping hand and put a smile on their children’s faces.”

Anyone who wants to donate a gift for young people aged up to 18-years-old is asked to leave it unwrapped and can drop it off at the salon.
