Scooter clubs will ride to deliver Christmas gifts to children in Pinderfields Hospital

The Yorkshire Beerpigs Scooter Club and the Featherstone Spartans Scooter Club have teamed up to help make the festive period a little easier for the poorly youngsters.

The groups will decorate six of their scooters as reindeers, which will tow a trailer full of presents.

Santa will ride with the two clubs to Pinderfields Hospital on Saturday, where the members will deliver the gifts to the children’s ward.

Sam Garside, of Yorkshire Beerpigs Scooter Club, said: “We have done the charity Santa run event before and it has always been a massive success.

“We are a lot quieter at Christmas time so we always try and do something to help children in the community.

“They can see us arriving by looking out of the hospital windows and we want to put a smile on their faces.”

The clubs have collected presents worth £3,000, which have been donated by businesses and people in the community.

Mrs Garside said: “The donations have been absolutely amazing. We are also looking into buying four tablets.

“The hospital says that they can be used to distract the children when they go into theatre We want to do anything that can help make it easier for them.”

The riders will leave The Cobbler in Pontefract and head to Featherstone Working Men’s Club on Green Lane, where the Featherstone Spartans Scooter Club meets.

They will then ride to Sharlston Rugby Club, the home of the Yorkshire Beerpigs Scooter Club.

A fleet of 50 riders will then travel to Pinderfields Hospital to deliver the presents to the children’s ward.

The Yorkshire Beerpigs and Featherstone Spartans scooter clubs are still looking for more presents to take to the children’s ward at Pinderfields Hospital.
