Second woman killed in smash named by police

A SECOND woman from Allerton Bywater who died after a head-on smash near Micklefield has been named by police.

Tracey Brereton, 43, died in hospital on Tuesday – one week after the two-car crash that also killed 39-year-old Helen Julia Gray.

The two women were passengers in a Ford Fiesta when it was in collision with a VW Golf on the A656 near Micklefield on Tuesday April 5.

Four other people were injured in the crash and all had to be cut free from the wreckage.

A 40-year-old man from London, who was driving the VW Golf, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released on police bail.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 49-year-old man, and another female passenger, 18, were also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Golf and a 15-year-old male passenger were taken to hospital with injuries not considered to be life threatening.
