A group of friends that has raised almost £30,000 for various charities has been supporting Prostate Cancer UK in the most successful fundraiser to date.

Sandra Pointon and Joan Leese, along with their family and friends, collected £2,726.60 through a series of events across Castleford and the Five Towns. The main attraction saw Sixties Mix played to a packed out venue at Roundhill WMC, with help from the hosts Cheryl and Steve Binns.

Fitness Flex raised more than £400 with a spin-a-thon led by instructor Rae Cooper while Morrison’s in Castleford, along with several local firms, donated prizes for a raffle.

Sandra and Joan also organised tombolas in the club and at JD Wetherspoon in Castleford and sold charity wristbands and badges. The group has been raising money for a different charity every year for the past 14 and this was the most money they have raised.

Sandra Pointon said: “The backing and support from people with the events has been above our expectations. Myself and everyone involved have been thrilled at the results. I’d like to thank everyone involved for their help and support.”
