“We would now like to make it an annual event. We don’t want to count our chickens but everybody told us they really enjoyed it and it’s something that we want to make happen.”

Castleford Heritage Trust owns the mill and is currently transforming it into an arts and cultural museum, also switched on its Christmas lights switch as part of the event.

Alison Drake, chairwoman of Castleford Heritage Trust, said: “The beer festival was an immense success. We had so many people come - it was just fantastic.

“There was a lovely atmosphere throughout the weekend. It was a good beer festival but I think it was made even better by the venue.

“We had a younger age group in the mill compared to what we are used to and it brought in people that didn’t know about the work we were doing.

“We ran some guided tours of the mill and everybody said they were really happy and excited about the works.”
