SLIDESHOW: M62 girls pay tribute at Bethany Jones’ funeral

The girls who survived the M62 crash paid tribute to their friend Bethany Jones at her funeral today.

The women gathered outside St Joseph’s Church, in Moorthorpe before the 11.45am service - six arriving in wheelchairs and several others with crutches - all wearing items of pink in memory of their friend.

Hundreds of people also lined the streets of Moorthorpe and South Elmsall to pay their respects to the 18-year-old trainee nurse who died after the minibus she and 20 others were travelling in was hit by a lorry, on April 26, on the M62 near Pontefract.

Her brother Ryan Jones, cousin Mark Larkin and boyfriend Nathan Hurcomb were three of the men who carried her white coffin scattered with pink roses into church.

During the service, Ryan Jones, gave a touching tribute to his ‘beautiful baby sister’.

He said she was a ‘stunning person, inside and out’.

Bethany’s boyfriend’s brother, Joshua Hurcomb, said Bethany had become a sister to him and she fitted perfectly into their family.

Becca Thompson and Emma Hallas also spoke to pay tribute to their cousin.

Bethany was a former pupil at St Wilfrid’s Catholic High School in Featherstone. The school its choir sang as people entered and left the church.
