Pontefract and Castleford MP Yvette Cooper met miners at Kellingley Colliery following the announcement that their employee buyout deal to save the pit had been scrapped.

Workers at the site said they were left “deflated” after shelving the deal which would have kept the mine open until 2020.

But Ms Cooper said she would continue to press the government to help find a future for the pit, which is now expected to close at the end of 2015.
