SLIDESHOW: There’s room on the broom at Anglers Country Park

Ryhill pupils were left spellbound when they helped launch a new book-themed trail through the woods.

The children were joined by a cat, a dog, a bird and a frog - as well as a few witches - at the start of the Room on the Broom trail at Anglers Country Park.

The themed walk takes children around the lake, where they can see giant animal footprints and sculptures of the Witch, Cat, Dog, Bird, Frog and Dragon.

The animals are all characters in the bestselling Julia Donaldson book, which is illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

Families can also pick up an explorers’ pack with fun and games to play along the route.

The trail was launched by children from Ryhill J&I School on World Book Day last Thursday. They were led down the trail by the witch and also enjoyed a storytime.

The trail is now open to the public.

Coun Les Shaw, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “This trail will give young people a great chance to get creative and enjoy all their favourite characters from this popular adventure book.

“With so much happening, make sure you don’t miss the trail and come down to enjoy what we have on offer.”

Explorers’ packs can be picked up at the Wintersett park’s visitor centre.
