Snow alert for Wakefield district

Snow could fall across the district overnight tonight (Friday), forecasters have warned.

The Met Office said there could also be light sleet and snow showers on Saturday morning.

It has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ warning and drivers have been told to expect disruption.

The Met Office said: “Snow accumulations are likely to mount up on hills, with around 10 to 15cm for some areas above 300m.

“Smaller accumulations are also expected to lower levels at times, away from immediate coasts, with localised falls of 2 to 6cm.

“Ice will be an additional hazard on untreated surfaces.”
