SNOW UPDATE - Met Office extends weather warning

Snow could continue to fall throughout the day and overnight, forecasters have warned.

The Met Office has extended its yellow ‘be aware’ warning for the Wakefield district until 11am on Friday as heavy snow showers continue to sweep across the country.

Drivers have been told to expect disruption during the rush hour commute later and tomorrow morning with the risk of ice on untreated surfaces.

The Met Office said: “Showers of sleet, snow and hail will continue through the rest of Thursday and into Friday morning, although at lower levels there will be a gradual trend towards rain and sleet from Thursday evening onwards.

“This will bring a risk of further snow, especially on higher ground, along with icy stretches on untreated surfaces.”
