The bride and groom ditched the traditional big white dress and morning suit for lycra when they tied the knot at Wakefield Register Office on Saturday.

The couple, from Kirkhamgate, cycled separately to the venue and were joined by two different bike clubs.

The couple even had a cycling-themed wedding cake, which included two figurines wearing bike gear.

Mr Cooper said: “The wedding went fantastic and lots of strangers stopped to cheer us on.

“The registrar enjoyed the theme and the bride looked fantastic on a bike.”

Mr Cooper, a member of Team Cystic Fibrosis, had taken part in a 1,000 mile charity bike ride from London to Cannes when he popped the question.

He said: “I proposed to Elaine over social media and thankfully she said yes so when I got back in May I booked the register office.

“I contacted my cycling team and I asked them if they would ride with me on the big day.”

Mr Cooper was joined by 30 riders as he rode through the city centre to the register office.

And his wife, owner of Kirkhamgate Fisheries, rode to the venue with 15 members from The Kirkhamgate Crows, a team set up by Mr Cooper a year ago.

Mr Cooper said: “For me and Elaine cycling has changed our lives. I started cycling in April 2013 after signing up to do a 500 mile charity bike ride. Since then I have rode more than 8,000 miles and have helped introduced a lot more people to cycling.”

The newlyweds have travelled to France this week for their honeymoon.
