South Elmsall engineer gains membership of professional body

Mr Karanya, 36, is a senior engineer at A-one+ in Normanton. Originally from Uganda, he studied at Makerere University and The University of Nottingham before moving to Yorkshire.

He was presented with his membership certificate at a ceremony at ICE’s headquarters in Westminster.

ICE is a professional institution for people who design, build and maintain the transport, water, energy, waste and flood infrastructures worldwide.

Mr Karanya said: “Becoming a member of the ICE equips me to progress further in my career to make the world a better place. Engineers are responsible for the innovations that have improved mankind’s quality of life and continue to do so. Some projects might seem mundane but they make a big difference - I spent six months working on improvements at the junction between the M18 and M180, something that helps thousands of people every day.”

Penny Marshall, ICE Yorkshire and Humber regional director, said: “Achieving ICE membership is a significant personal and career achievement and we welcome Collins into the ICE.”
