Special Ofsted reports makes it four in a row

A special school which was amalgamated with another to triple in size has been given an outstanding Ofsted report.

Kingsland Primary, which operates across two sites - the former Pathways School on Castleford’s Poplar Avenue and Aberford Road in Stanley, - was given top marks across the board after a recent inspection.

This includes the quality of its teaching, effectiveness of leadership, pupils’ outcomes and early-years provision.

The school caters for youngsters from the age of 2 to 11 who have special needs or disabilities. The impressive inspection marks the fourth consecutive occasion that the school has been given the highest possible marks, but the first since taking over the former Pathways in Castleford last year.

During Kingsland’s last inspection in 2011, the school had just 66 pupils, which has now almost tripled thanks to the new site.

Headteacher Paula Trow said the latest report was a huge achievement given the amount of work had been put in to bring the two schools together as one.

She said: “We are delighted to be acknowledged by Ofsted as outstanding on both sites.

“It is a real testimony to the commitment and hard work of pupils and the whole team to provide the very highest quality of education.

“This includes families, staff, the local authority, other professionals, volunteers and the governing body.”

The report, which followed a two-day inspection, reads: “The headteacher, senior leaders and governors have led the school successfully through a period of unprecedented growth and change. The headteacher has made sure that the whole school community has remained resolutely focused on giving pupils the best possible start.”

It also said that pupils “make remarkable progress” and “achieve excellent outcomes” while teachers use “excellent subject and specialist knowledge” which promotes “high levels of learning”.
