Sponsored ride in memory of Beth

Dozens of scooters will take to the streets of Pontefract and South Elmsall this weekend to raise funds for charity.

Members of Pontefract Scooter Club will ride on Saturday to raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, in memory of 18-year-old Bethany Jones who died in a minibus crash on the M62 month.

The group will leave the Railway Inn, on Mill Dam Lane, Pontefract, at 1pm and ride around 20 miles through South Elmsall, where Bethany lived.

Daryl Hickman, event organiser, said: “We usually have around 80 riders at our events but this has been well publicised and we are hoping to get around 100.

“We did a charity ride a couple of years ago for the Prince of Wales Hospice and raised almost £1,000.

“If we can get anything like that, it will be great but to be honest anything at all we can raise is a bonus.”

The club, made up of enthusiasts who ride Vespa and Lambretta scooters, will be taking collections on the day at both the Railway Inn and in South Elmsall.

The ride will also be followed by a charity event on Saturday night at the Railway Inn.

There will be a DJ and live music from soul singer Little Gem.

Tickets for the event cost £3 each and are available from Mick Flint on 07508 108149.

The club meets every Thursday at the Railway Inn at 7pm and anyone is welcome to join. For more information visit www.pontefractscooterclub.co.uk
