Inspirational British 200m sprint champion Beth Dobbin paid more than a flying visit to a Pontefract school.

Youngsters from Halfpenny Lane Primary School were thrilled to see the track star earlier this month.

As well as sharing her motivational stories in the school assembly, the successful sprinter led the children in a sponsored multi-fitness event. They raised £1,287 for the school’s PE department.

Last weekend Beth represented Team GB at the London Stadium and is set to go for glory in the European Championships in Berlin in August.

James Parkinson, head of school at Half Penny Lane Primary School, said: “The children were so excited to meet Beth and asked her lots of fantastic questions such as how much training she has to do and what they’ll need to do to be a British Champion. We are very proud of the children and so grateful to Beth for taking the time out of her busy schedule to see us.”

Halfpenny Lane Primary school is one of eight members of the Pontefract Academies Trust, a multi academy trust educating around 3,500 young people in Pontefract.
