Students with a passion for politics joined in a lively debate with Pontefract and Castleford MP, Yvette Cooper.
Pupils from NEW College, Carleton Community High School, The King’s School and Purston E-ACT Academy were treated to a presentation from the politician when she visited the Park Lane sixth form site.
Youngsters were given the opportunity to take part in a Q&A session on a wide range of topics, including employment, policing the internet and failing economies.
Laura Schofield, NEW College student, said: “We really enjoyed the opportunity to engage with an MP discussing real- life politics.
“It was good to see younger students from local schools getting involved too.”
Jon Skelton, government and politics teacher for the college, added: “I hope the event helped to raise awareness of some local young people to political issues”
