Summer activities across the district to keep the kids occupied

But with another two weeks to go, you might find you are running short of ideas to keep the kids occupied.

There is still plenty of events and activities taking place across the district before the school season starts.

And The Express has pulled together a guide of some of the highlights.

l Dig for treasure at Castleford Library and Museum on Saturday.

l A Second World War reenactment event will take place at the National Coal Mining Museum this weekend. Visitors can find out more about the conflict through weapons, uniforms and battle re-enactments. It takes place on Saturday and Sunday from 10am until 5pm.

l Drop in to The Hepworth’s learning studios between 11am and 4pm on August 23, 24 and 25 to experience a garden-themed play environment. Children can create their own drawings and botanical sculptures.

l Youngsters can also get crafty at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park’s garden studio. Families are invited to call in between 11am and 4pm on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to investigate objects, draw and play.

l Free craft sessions will take place at Wakefield Museum every Saturday until September 24, from noon until 3pm.

l Farmer Copleys at Ravensknowle Farm offers family fun including mini wagon rides and a corn maze. It is open from 10.30am daily until September 4.

l A soft play bus will come to Wakefield’s Trinity Walk on Wednesday, August 24 between 10am and 4pm.

l The National Trust is hosting daily activities at Nostell Priory from now until September 2. Families can expect insect collecting, sports and crafts from 11am until 3pm.

l People can learn about history at Pontefract museum on Wednesday, August 31. The drop in event takes place from 10am until 3pm and visitors can examine artefacts from the past as well as taking part in a history-themed craft activity.
