Generous people across the area have helped bring a brave youngster’s dream a step closer to reality .
The family of 10-year-old Castleford girl Summer Day – who has cerebral palsy – launched a campaign last year to raise £10,000 to take her to Florida to swim with dolphins.
So far, around £4,500 has been raised and further fundraising events are planned.
A weightlifting event held at Xcercise4Less in Glass Houghton on Saturday raised more than £2,000 for the trip.
Summer’s auntie, Louise Day, 28, said: “Summer always has a smile on her face, she leaves a lasting affect on you.
“Swimming with dolphins is her dream and if we can give her the opportunity, it will be fantastic.”
Summer, a pupil at Smawthorne Henry Moore Primary School in Castleford, received an Express Champion Children award last month.
Her family hope to take her on the dream trip to the US - which would include a visit to Disneyland - in March or April.
Other events organised include a sponsored boxing match at Castleford Civic Centre, Ferrybridge Road, on Saturday, February 22, from 6pm.
Tickets cost £20 or £30 for ringside seats with all proceeds going to fund Summer’s trip.
