Super slimmer tackles London Marathon

A super slimmer who lost more than three and a half stones is to take on the Virgin Money London Marathon to raise money for charity.

Tori Jeffery, from Wakefield, will be running the 26.2 mile route in aid of Cancer Research UK on April 24.

The 21-year-old student lost 3st 7lbs with the Outwood Slimming World group and has gone from hating exercise to loving it so much she has already run two marathons, six half marathons and countless 10kms and 5kms.

She joined the group aged 17 as she had been overweight for most of her childhood and found that previous attempts at losing weight had been unsuccessful.

Miss Jeffery said: “In my first year in halls I remember saying to a friend you will never get me running, so she challenged me. At the time I refused but later I changed my mind. I gave it a go, built up my miles and I haven’t looked back. I have so much more energy thanks to losing weight, and the food I eat gives me plenty of fuel too.

“I can’t believe how far I’ve come in the past few years and all the incredible changes I’ve made to my lifestyle. I’m happier and healthier and by losing weight I’ve reduced my chances of developing a range of health problems including some types of cancer.

“I’ve really found a love for running and I can’t believe I’m going to be running the big one this year.

“I can’t wait for the atmosphere on race day and to cross that finish line. Achieving this lifelong ambition would never have been possible before Slimming World. I can’t wait to give something back and raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK too.”

Miss Jeffery is part of a team representing Slimming World.

The 13 members, who have lost a combined total of 92 stones, are all raising money for Cancer Research to raise awareness of how keeping a healthy weight improves health, including preventing the risk of developing some types of cancer.
