A suspected conman has been arrested for allegedly swindling pensioners out of cash.
Police arrested a 45-year-old man from Barnsley after reports of an elderly woman letting a man into her home.
The man allegedly went the victim’s home on Charles Street, Eastmoor, on October 10 and asked her for a drink.
After the woman let him into her property, he allegedly stole money from her.
The man is also being questioned about similar offences in Leeds and Huddersfield.
Police said the majority of victims were pensioners and a “substantial amount” of cash had been stolen.
Mark Chamberlain, of Wakefield Central neighbourhood police team (NPT), is warning people to be vigilant over the Christmas period.
He said: “If you do not know who they are and they do not show any identification then do not let them in your home.
“You should phone your family, friends or the NPT if you have any concerns.”
