Katie Vose, PE teacher at the Pontefract school, said: “It would be absolutely fantastic for the children to be able to go out there and play.

“It sounds a bit of a cliche but it really would be a once in a lifetime opportunity for them.

“Some of the children haven’t even left Pontefract let alone gone abroad to play sport.”

After winning three tournaments across the district so far this year, the youngsters will now go on to represent the Wakefield district in the West Yorkshire Games.

Mrs Vose said:“We have entered the Carleton High School tournament which was all the schools in Pontefract and we won that.

“Then we played in a year-five futsal tournament which was against all teams in West Yorkshire and won that.

“We also won the Five Towns Championship tournament against teams from across the Wakefield district. “The children have done so well.”

The team - made up of youngsters from years four, five and six - also have the chance of gracing the hallowed turf of Wembley if they win another tournament next month.

Mrs Vose said: “The children are all buzzing and the children are hoping to make it to Wembley.

“It would be an amazing experience for them.”

The school has organised a number of events to raise cash for the trip.

There will be a Christmas fair on Thursday, December 10 with festive stalls and handmade gifts.

It is also planning a De Lacy’s Got Talent event for January - which will see acts take to the school’s stage in a competition.

The school is also looking for raffle prizes and donations.
