Teenager is face of national TV ad campaign

Ossett teenager Siobhan Shields has been chosen to star in a TV advertising campaign for the National Citizen Service (NCS) youth programme.

The 16-year-old is one of 20 NCS graduates who will feature in the campaign after her hard work and enthusiasm while taking part in the scheme was recognised.

The advertisement shows friends from NCS being reunited to relive their experiences using footage filmed during the programme.

It was first aired on Sky, ITV and channels 4 and 5 on January 17 and will be shown until the end of February, as well as in cinemas throughout next month.

Siobhan said: “NCS was one of the best experiences of my life and I can’t believe I’ve been able to relive it all over again as part of the advertising shoot.

“What started as four weeks of my summer holidays has resulted in lifelong friendships, a new found confidence in stepping out of my comfort zone and an amazing experience that will stay with me forever.

“I’d say to any young person considering taking part in the programme to sign up straight away.

“You may be feeling apprehensive, but remember that everyone else is in the same position too.”

Since completing the programme last summer, Siobhan has joined the NCS National Youth Board to encourage more young people to sign up.

After being named as an NCS leader in October, she was invited to take part in the advertising campaign and photo shoot with creative director Giorgio Testi.

The NCS scheme in Wakefield is a four week part-residential programme open to 16 and 17-year-olds.

It teaches practical skills to prepare them for life after school and home and offers a variety of exciting challenges.
