CULT television fans will have a knight to remember when 80s legend David Hasselhoff visits Xscape on Saturday.

The Knight Rider star – known as The Hoff – revealed he plans to attend film and TV car show Knightcon at the Glass Houghton leisure complex in a post on micro-blogging website Twitter.

On his verified account, he wrote: “Head over to the Hoff Shop and get your gear before meeting me @KnightCon_UK October 1st so I can spot you easier!”

The star-studded convention – which is expected to attract visitors from as far away as America – has been organised by friends Steve Fawcett, 29, and Rob Ormondroyd, 39, who both own replica KITT cars.

Special guests at the free event, from 10.30am until 6pm, will include Rebecca Holden, who played KITT’s mechanic in season two of the show, and Peter Parros, who played RC3 in season four. The A-Team’s Dirk Benedict, who was due to appear at the event will no longer be attending due to illness.

Steve said he could not confirm if The Hoff, who played crime-fighter Michael Knight, will be able to attend – but said revellers would be able to enjoy a spectacular display of famous TV and film cars.

He added: “He’s written it on Twitter, but until the day we won’t know if he’s coming or not. We don’t want people to come along expecting him to be there because he may not be able to come.

“We’re so excited – our first Knightcon five years ago was a few fans in a pub car park, so for it to explode to this scale in such a short amount of time is mindblowing. People from around the world have said they’re going to attend and we’re thrilled to hold it at Xscape. As far as we’re concerned, it’s the best venue in the north of England.”

Steve and Rob have also invited as many TV and movie cars as they can think of, including Del Boy’s van from Only Fools and Horses,The A-Team van and Bumblebee from the Transformers films.

Dozens of Knight Rider fans are expected to bring their treasured converted Pontiac Trans Am vehicles to put on show.

Dan Wharton, Xscape marketing manager, said: “We are thrilled to have Knightcon bring their spectacular show to Xscape, it’s a real family friendly event with mass appeal that has ignited imaginations across Yorkshire and of course helps confirm our position as the region’s ultimate entertainment destination.”
