Thirteen charged over ‘modern slavery’

A Kinsley man is one of 13 people charged after a police operation against modern slavery.

John Rooney, 51, of Chantry Craft, Kinsley, near Hemsworth, is due to appear in court next month along with nine other men and three women, aged 22 to 54.

Lincolnshire Police said a another John Rooney, aged 29, Patrick Rooney, 29, Martin Rooney, 22, Bridget Rooney, 54, and Martin Rooney, 53, all of Sheffield Road, Drinsey Nook, Lincolnshire, have all been charged with conspiracy to hold another person in slavery or servitude.

Also charged are Peter Doran, 31, Gerry Rooney, 40, Larry Rooney, 48, and John Joseph Rooney, 26, all of Washingborough Road, Lincoln.

Nora Rooney, 29, of Sheffield Road, Drinsey Nook, has been charged with cheating the public revenue, as well as Eileen Rooney, 30, of the same address.

Danny Rooney, 49, of Washingborough Road, Lincoln, has been charged with fraud by false representation and possession of criminal property.

They are due to appear at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on October 28.
