Thousands are ready to run in the Wakefield Hospice 10k

This weekend will see more than 2,000 runners take to the city’s streets to raise money for Wakefield Hospice.

The 20th annual Wakefield Hospice 10k, takes place on Sunday, March 29.

More than 1,600 people have signed up in advance for the road race, which is sponsored by Richard Kendall Estate Agents, and the hospice is expecting to raise at least £50,000.

Danielle Norman, event organiser said: “We are over the moon with the number of people who have entered. It will be by far the biggest Wakefield 10k to date.

“The money each runner is raising will be make a difference to patients and their families here at Wakefield Hospice.

“For every £20 raised in sponsorship we are able to fund one hour of care – making a huge difference to someone living with an end of life diagnosis.

“We are so thankful to all the runners for joining us on this important day for Wakefield and we must thank our sponsors Richard Kendall Estate Agents for their support.”

The race will be started by Wakefield-born actress, Michelle Hardwick, who plays Vanessa Woodfield in ITV soap Emmerdale

Ed Balls MP for Outwood and Morley, and Harry Gration BBC Look North presenter, will also be taking part in the race.

Claire Kendall, of Richard Kendall Estate Agents, will be running with a team of 11 staff members.

Ms Kendall said: “We are delighted to be supporting the hospice by sponsoring this year’s Wakefield 10k.

“With keen runners throughout each of our five local offices, and having had a number of staff take part in last year’s event it was a natural progression for our company to ensure that we give our maximum support to this local charity.”

People can still register for the 10k from 8am to 8.45 on the day in the Clarence Park Arena. The race starts at 9am .

Registration for the 1k mini run will take place from 9am at the arena. The fun run starts at 10.15am.
