Thousands of food lovers celebrate Wakefield rhubarb

More than 120,000 people were entertained by street performers, children’s activities, cooking demonstrations and live music as well as having the chance to taste a selection of rhubarb flavoured foods.

The three-day festival which ran during the weekend, played host to celebrity chefs, local restaurateurs and even Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls who took to the cooking stage on the cathedral precinct.

Coun Les Shaw, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport said: “I am pleased that so many people have visited the city centre this weekend. The three days were a huge success and there was a real buzz around the city. We have had fantastic feedback about the festival from visitors and local businesses.

“The festival has grown in strength from year to year and provides a huge boost to Wakefield’s local economy. I would like to thank everyone who took part in the event and thank visitors from near and far for their support, which has made the festival the success it is.”
