More than 1,000 people viewed plans for a £5m makeover of Castleford bus station at consultation events earlier this month.
Proposals for the Albion Street station revamp include an enclosed waiting area, CCTV coverage, real time information, a retail outlet and public toilets.
Travel bosses said the majority of visitors were in favour of the proposals.
Coun Yvonne Crewe said: “We were really pleased with the turnout and that so many people were in support of our plans to develop a new bus station for the town.
“It shows the importance people in Castleford place on good transport facilities.”
Wakefield Council entered into an agreement with Metro at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
Coun Denise Jeffery, cabinet member for regeneration and economic growth, said that entering with Metro would ensure that the two organisations could deliver a new bus station which both residents and visitors could benefit.
