Time-lapse video shows construction of Rothwell Fire Station

Rothwell Fire Station cost £1.4m to build and it will be officially opened on Thursday.

The ceremony will be attended by dignitaries, fire chiefs and staff from Conlon Construction.

And Michael Fox, the deputy lieutenant for the West Yorkshire British Legion, will be the guest of honour.

The facility has replaced the former fire station on the same site on Carlton Lane.

And the new site will house 14 firefighters and one fire engine.

Fire crews began working at the station in January and have so far attended around 180 incidents.

It is predicted that firefighters at the station will be called out to around 450 incidents a year.

Station commander Adam Greenwood said: “As the new station at Rothwell has been up and running for a couple of months now, I can report the crews are settled in and are delighted with the completed building and the facilities it provides.”

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service station manager Graham Heath said: “We were faced with the massive task of the phased build of a new fire station on the same site on which firefighters continued to operate from temporary working accommodation.

“This brought considerable challenges throughout the programme but the strong relationship between Conlon Construction and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service resulted in all obstacles being overcome and a new modern and efficient fire station being realised.

“I would personally like to thank Conlon Construction and the Rothwell crews for their considerable assistance in making this project work.”
