Tour de Yorkshire needs you - volunteers needed for Wakefield stage

Stage three of the race will begin in Wakefield city centre on Sunday, May 3.

And the council needs people to help with meeting and greeting, signposting visitors and helping out on stalls.

Thousands of spectators are expected to line the route to cheer on the elite of the cycling world.

Volunteers will also hand out information about the event at key points for the race, including the bus station, railway stations, car parks , Manygates Centre, Pugneys Country Park, Sandal Castle and Newmillerdam.

The riders will take part in a ceremonial start outside Wakefield Cathedral down from 12.15pm before passing the Hepworth and onto the official race start at the junction of Agbrigg Road and Barnsley Road (A61).

Cyclists will ride through Sandal, and Newmillerdam before leaving the district at Woolley and continuing to Barnsley before heading to the finish line in Leeds.

Volunteers need to be aged 16 or over. They will receive training, and a souvenir T-shirt. They need to apply at www.wakefield.gov.uk/volunteers by April 24. Training sessions for volunteers will take place from the week commencing April 27.
