Youngsters at Pontefract Air Cadets are flying high after being recognised at the squadron’s annual awards night.

The event, at the King’s Croft Hotel, saw seven of the group receive awards for their commitment over the last year.

More than 100 people, including proud parents and staff were at the event.

Steph Ford, squadron leader, said: “All the award winners deserved what they won and we congratulate their achievements.

“But all of the squadron has worked this year. I am proud of them all – they’re a terrific bunch of young people.”

The awards ceremony marked the end of a successful year for the group.

The group’s first success was at a cross country competition in January where the girls’ senior team – Sgt Lois Whitaker, Cpl Freya Kaye and Cdts Tamara Carder and Amy Ingle – triumphed against other squadrons.

Sgt Lois Whitaker, Flt Sgt Ben Field and Cdt Thomas Dexter all passed their first aid course and three other cadets also qualified for their bronze Duke of Edinburgh awards.

The group meets at Minden House TA Centre, on Wakefield Road.
