A 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old girl, who were with the boy at the time, have been taken to Pinderfields Hospital.

The extent of their injuries is unknown, but not thought to be life-threatening.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of his death, although at this stage it would appear that the two boys and the female were on the railway line and the 15-year-old boy had climbed on to a freight train at the location and came in to contact

with the power lines.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious.

“A file will be prepared for the local coroner and the Office of Rail Regulation has been informed and will carry out its own investigation.”

Rail services were disrupted while emergency services worked at the scene.

Firefighters from Wakefield attended the incident, along with Cleckheaton’s Technical Resuce Unit.

“Railways are extremely dangerous areas and the parents of children of all ages should teach them about the dangerous of trespassing on railway property.
