Wakefield Council have launched a new consultation on proposed changes to Ings Road, in the city centre, with suggestions including the installation of new shared cycle/footways.
They are particularly focusing on four of the road's junctions, from Kirkgate through to Charlesworth Way.

This would help traffic flow more smoothly in the area, but would have the downside of forcing traffic from Denby Dale Road to travel via Charlesworth Way, instead of joining the junction directly.
Coun Matthew Morley, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Highways, said: “Ings Road is a main road into the city centre and is often extremely busy – with shoppers and people who work in the city.
“We want to improve the conditions of this road, not only to alleviate traffic but also to encourage people to walk and cycle as an alternative.

The plans also suggest changing lane markings on the road to prevent problems caused by some drivers performing "illegal and dangerous turning manoeuvres" via the Halfords car park entrance at peak times, the council said.
