Delays on M1 as managed motorway works continue

Motorists face delays as a £120m scheme to help ease congestion on the M1 motorway near Wakefield continues.

The Highways Agency are carrying out works to upgrade the motorway to a ‘managed motorway.’

As part of the project, the southbound exit slip road at junction 41 at Carr Gate will be closed overnight on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (August 26 to 29).

The closures will be in place from 8pm to 6am each night.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place.

The northbound carriageway will also be closed at junction 39 at Durkar on Friday, August 29.

Motorists will have to exit the main carriageway and rejoin it on the entry slip road.

The scheme, which is due to be complete by September next year, will see hard shoulders become permanent lanes in both directions between junction 39 at Durkar and junction 42 at Lofthouse, with the aim of increasing capacity.
