Further roadworks on the M62 in a bid to ease traffic delays

Motorists face delays as work on two schemes to cut congestion on the M62 near Normanton and Castleford gets underway.

A £20m ‘pinch point’ scheme to install new CCTV cameras and automatic traffic monitoring between junction 30 at Rothwell and junction 32 at Pontefract is due to be complete by the end of the year.

Now, two £3.22m schemes to relieve congestion on the eastbound carriageway exit slip roads at junctions 31 and 32 will start on Monday.

Roger Wantling, Highways Agency service delivery team leader, said: “These schemes will improve the exit arrangements at junction 31 and junction 32 on the M62 eastbound carriageway, which are currently affected by congestion during peak hours with traffic backing up to the M62 mainline at both locations.

“Once complete they will cut congestion and reduce journey times at these junctions.

“This will be beneficial for the local economies and also improve safety for drivers.”
