Long delays reported as police close M62 at Wakefield

Delays of more than three miles have been reported on the M62 this evening.

West Yorkshire Police said they were attending an "incident" between junctions 29 and 28 of the westbound carriageway.

Photos from the scene show four police cars and a number of officers on the carriageway.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area where possible.

More than three miles of traffic has been reported on the westbound carriageway, with delays backing past junction 29 (Lofthouse) and towards junction 30 (Rothwell).

Some delays have also been reported at the Lofthouse INterchange and backing onto the northbound M1.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Police incident between J29 and J28 M62 West, please avoid the area where possible."
