Nine miles of traffic and long delays on M62 at Wakefield after collision closes carriageway

Drivers in Wakefield are facing long delays this morning, after a collision on the M62 saw a section of the motorway closed amid almost 10 miles of traffic.

Two lanes of the M62 were closed following a collision between junction 27 (Gildersome) and junction 26 (Chain Bar) earlier this morning.

West Yorkshire Police and Highways England traffic officers attended the scene of the collision and closed a section of the westbound carriageway.

Though the road has now reopened, long delays remain, with queues back to junction 29, at Lofthouse Interchange.

Drivers are advised to allow an additional 45 minutes travel time if passing through the area.
