Police are appealing for witnesses after a 19-year-old woman died and a man suffered life threatening injuries in an accident in Pontefract.

The Major Collision Enquiry Team would like to speak to anyone who has information about the incident which took place on Pontefract Road, between Pontefract and Featherstone, at around 11.50pm last night.

Police said a blue Jaguar car, which was driving from Pontefract towards Featherstone, collided with fencing while on a bend.

The driver, a 29-year-old man remains in Leeds General Infirmary where he is being treated for his injuries.

Det Sgt Carole Greaves, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Pontefract Road near Featherstone on the evening of Monday, April 14 who may have witnessed a blue Jaguar motor vehicle travelling in the general direction of Wakefield.

“This vehicle was subsequently involved in a collision and we would ask that anyone who saw it prior to or at the time of the collision to contact us on 101.”
