Roadworks to remain in place over Easter holidays

Motorists looking to head off for the Easter break face delays as roadworks on the M1 and M62 continue.

Works are underway to upgrade the M1 to a managed motorway between junction 39 at Durkar and junction 42 at Lofthouse.

The Highways Agency confirmed a 50mph speed limit and narrow lanes will remain in place throughout the Easter weekend because open excavations mean it would be unsafe to lift the restrictions.

The £120m scheme started in November and aims to reduce congestion on the carriageway.

The Highways Agency expect the scheme to be finished by September 2015.

As part of the works, the southbound carriageway between junction 40 at Ossett and junction 39 at Durkar will be closed overnight from 10pm on Saturday, April 26 and 6am on Sunday, April 27.

Roadworks will also remain in place on the M62 near Pontefract.
