Principal Pam Massett said: “Obviously everybody is devastated. She was a well-liked, popular girl and the staff who worked with her are very upset by the news.

“We have a team of student mentors and liaison officers who are helping our students to deal with this.”

Mrs Massett said Hannah, who was from Wakefield, had performed particularly well on a hairdressing course at college.

She said: “She had a real flair for that and her tutor spoke of her very highly,”

Police are appealing for witnesses following Tuesday’s incident, which happened at 11.35pm near Smawell Lane.
