A pensioner died after suffering serious injuries in a road smash.

A blue Honda Civic and a blue Mini One were involved in a collision on Bar Lane in Midgley at about 4.50pm on Sunday.

The 87-year-old driver of the Honda was taken to Pinderfields hospital but died later.

His 74-year-old passenger was flown by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary (LGI).
She suffered serious leg injuries and remains in hospital where her condition is described as serious.

Police confirmed that they are both from Linthwaite.

The woman driving the Mini was also taken to LGI for treatment and police said she was in a “stable condition with non life threatening injuries.”

The Major Collisions and Enquiry Team are investigating the incident.

The Honda was heading towards Midgley from Wakefield and the Mini was travelling in the opposite direction at the time of the collision.
