Updated - Pensioner, 71, dies in house fire

Fire crews from Wakefield, Rothwell and Hunslet were called to a property on Leeds Road at around 10.10pm last night (Saturday).

A police spokesman said a 71-year-old woman died at the scene.

A 68-year-old man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation where he remains in a stable condition.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway and anyone with any information should contact Leeds CID on 101.
