An investigation has been launched after a pensioner died in a house fire.

The 71-year-old woman died in the blaze at a property on Leeds Road, Lofthouse last night (Saturday).

A 68-year-old man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and is in a stable condition.

Crime scene investigators were at the property this morning.

Fire crews from Wakefield, Rothwell and Hunslet were called to the property at around 10.10pm.
