Wakefield Council has announced contractor North Midland Construction will start work on the 1.5km Northern Link Road on Monday, June 2.

The road is part of a scheme to build more than 900 homes - along with shops and businesses - on the site of the former Prince of Wales Colliery.

It will run as a single carriageway from Park Road to Skinner Lane and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
