Trapped three-year-old girl freed by firefighters using washing up liquid

A young girl whose head was trapped between a pillar and post was freed by firefighters using washing up liquid.

Firefighters from Castleford were called to the United Reformed Church, Knottingley, yesterday morning.

The alarm was raised after the three-year-old girl had been playing and managed to get her body in a gap of about six inches, but got her head stuck.

After trying to lift the girl out, firefighters managed to free her by using water and washing up liquid on her hair.

Daryl Schofield, watch commander at Castleford, said: “The little girl sobbed for about 10 minutes, but soon cheered up after she got a chance to see the fire engine.”

The girl, although distressed, was not injured.
