The woman driver, the only person in the car, had become trapped.

Firefighters cut her from the vehicle and she was taken to hospital.

Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

Watch Commander Colin Stringer of South Kirkby fire station said: “The cause of this particular crash is as yet unknown.

“But we are attending quite a lot of road traffic collisions in our area and we are trying to educate people on the dangers of speed in particular.

“We would remind people to stick to the safe and legal limits in the area.”
