A woman had to be cut from a car after a collision in Upton.

Fire crews from Pontefract and South Kirkby were called to the scene at the junction of Common Lane and the A638 Doncaster Road at around 7.55am today (April 5).

Two cars - a Hyundai i20 and a 4x4 - had collided and the Hyundai had flipped on to its side.

The woman driver, the only person in the car, had become trapped.

Firefighters cut her from the vehicle and she was taken to hospital.

Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

Watch Commander Colin Stringer of South Kirkby fire station said: “The cause of this particular crash is as yet unknown.

“But we are attending quite a lot of road traffic collisions in our area and we are trying to educate people on the dangers of speed in particular.

“We would remind people to stick to the safe and legal limits in the area.”
