Applicant Barry Price wants to put a static caravan and a utility block on land just off George Street in South Hiendley.

Mr Price applied to convert the land into a permanent travellers’ site but the plans were rejected by Wakefield Council in October last year.

He has now submitted revised plans to the council.

The application was the latest to be lodged by a group of travellers, which included plans for a travellers site on Brier Lane, Havercroft, and a showmen’s site in Fitzwilliam.

Coun Cliff Baker, of South Hiendley Parish Council, fears the South East is becoming a hot spot for travellers.

He said: “I have to question how many more travellers sites we are going to get in the area. We do not want to become an area where travellers regard it as their local area. It has become a concern.”

South Hiendley Parish Council voted unanimously against the plans for a travellers site on George Street.

Coun Baker said: “A previous application had already been rejected for the same site a couple of months ago.”
