Travellers set up camp in Wakefield

Wakefield Council said they have been working with the police to remove them from the site.

Glynn Humphries, the council’s service director environment and streetscene, said: “A court date is set for next week where we will seek to obtain a possession order to remove the travellers.

“Further steps are also being taken to protect the car park to prevent camps in the future.”

Another group of travellers set up camp on Quebec Street on Tuesday evening.

The council visited the site on Wednesday to negotiate a date for them to leave the site.
