Tributes paid to Rovers cup winner Brian

Mr Wrigglesworth - who was part of the club’s 1967 Challenge Cup winning team - died on Tuesday, December 1 after a battle with Parkinson’s disease.

He played for the club for five years before going on to coach the team and won the Yorkshire Combination with Rovers in 1972.

Mr Wrigglesworth also worked as a milkman in Knottingley.

His daughter Karen Williams said: “Dad was a family man and we all think an awful lot of him.

“He was known as the ‘flying milkman’ because he had a photograph in the Express of him jumping over a gate carrying two bottles of milk.

“Not only was he really well-known but he was also well-liked by a lot of people. He’ll be sadly missed by an awful lot of people.”

Mr Wrigglesworth played for the club between 1966 and 1971.

The utility player scored 11 tries and one goal for Rovers.

He played at stand-off in the club’s Challenge Cup victory over Barrow.

Terry Jones, club historian, said: “He was outstanding in the cup to the Wembley final of 1967.

“Brian contributed as much as any of the players to the club’s first Wembley win.”

Mr Wrigglesworth’s funeral will take place on Tuesday, December 15 at Pontefract Crematorium, Wakefield Road.

It will be held at 11.20am and the public are welcome to attend.

The service will be followed by a wake at Featherstone’s Big Fellas Stadium, Post Office Road.

The family said fans are welcome at the funeral and wake and asked for people to make donations in lieu of flowers to the charity Parkinson’s UK.
