Trio raise hospice cash in mum’s memory

The youngsters have already raised £3,000 through donations in lieu of flowers at their mum Karen Hill’s funeral.

Ms Hill was cared for at the hospice after being diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago.

She died at the Halfpenny Lane centre on June 16 at the age of 38.

Their dad Terry Foster, 53, said: “With their mum being so poorly, they used to go to the hospice to see her every day and we explained to them how the hospice was funded and when she died they all said they wanted to do something to help.

“I am extremely proud of them. Out of everybody in the family, the children are the ones who have handled it the best.”

Grace, eight, and Evie, six, also topped up their total by holding a cake stall at Sharlston Community School earlier this month.

They will now make the stall an annual event to raise money for the hospice and have called it Karen’s Cakes.

Mr Foster, of Oakleigh Close, Sharlston, said: “The hardest thing I will ever have to do in my life is come home and tell the children that their mum has died.

“But I couldn’t have asked for them to take it any better and for them to start raising the money is amazing.

“We’ve not set a target as to how much we want to raise, we just want to help the hospice as much as we can.

“We’ll keep doing it as long as we can and raise money for their fantastic work.”
